My Why:

I find it strange within Western spirituality that we can often name many deities found in far-off lands, but we often can’t name the trees in our gardens, the stars from our hemisphere and the animals who roam in our last wild areas. I feel that due to colonisation and homogenisation of our native British knowledge throughout history, we have lost that important practise of reverence and familiarity with our natural world, which means we have lost our place as stewards. With our world in climate and social crisis, it feels more important than ever to reweave ourselves back into our local landscapes and the sanctity of our oral traditions and rituals in order to protect nature and innocent life.

I want to be the wizened old crone who takes her grandchild on walks into the forest to teach them the lore of trees, the medicine in plants and our kin in the otherworld. I want the knowledge that has skipped too many generations to bleed back into my veins and permeate through those who come next. I want to honour the land that holds me and teach others to do the same thing. We have gaps in our knowledge in the West, it’s time to come back into apprenticeship with the land, and this is where you can start doing that in an easy and accessible way.

This is for you if:

  • You have studied different traditions from around the world but want to come back to your native ancestral knowledge.

  • You feel you have gaps in your knowledge around your local plants, stars, animals, myths and folklore.

  • You want to develop your intuitive connection to the land and water to help bring healing and balance to where you live.

  • You are in the British diaspora and want a way to help connect with your native lands.

  • You want to be a wizened old grandma/grandpa who passes on the lost knowledge from our ancestors to future generations.

  • You want to learn how to steward and care for your local landscape and your more-than-human kin.

  • You want to develop your spiritual connection to the web of life and the otherworld.

  • You want to care for streams, rivers, springs in a practical and spiritual way.

  • You want to meet like-minded people who want to steward and care for the land and our native spiritual inheritance.

  • You want to pilgrimage to the sacred sites of the UK.

  • You want to protect life, innocence, nature and creativity.

Imagine this…

You feel deeply connected to the land, you know the names of the plants by your feet and the birds soaring in the heavens. You speak with trees, deer and spirits that roam and protect the land. You can feel that you are an extension of an animate landscape which you know how to steward and care for. You no longer feel gaps in your knowledge or a disconnection to your cultural past; you feel grounded in your spiritual inheritance. You are walking with the old ways and reigniting oral traditions, passing on wisdom that has too long been absent from the tongues of your ancestors. In your old age, you are the one people call for remedies for a broken heart or a fever; you become the wise old grandparent you wish had passed all of this on to you.
