Why learn about our spiritual history:
We are missing large parts of our spiritual past in the British Isles; our classic education schools us around royals, battles and the movement of power over the centuries. But what about the history of belief, how the sacred developed throughout history, and why are we in this position of fragmentation, which leads us to travel to far-off places seeking lineages which survived the brute forces of colonisation?
When speaking to many of my peers, I often feel we are living without context, without understanding of the experiences of our ancestors and how to start to reignite the traditions of the old ways which once pulsed through the lands of the British Isles. It can feel bewildering to know where to start. Therefore, I have created this workshop in collaboration with animist, seer, and researcher of the old ways of Britain, Samara Lewis to offer remedy, to fill the gaps we have in our spiritual past and to offer us the grounding of context, from which we can start to develop a devotional relationship with the land and our ancestral oral traditions.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
Samara will be taking us on a journey through the spiritual history of the British Isles, understanding what happened to our spiritual traditions through the ages and how we can still connect to the land today through what remains of our spirit-connection traditions.
Including:
Where we moved away from animism in the British Isles and how that affects us today.
How new ideas of spirituality came to the British Isles throughout history from migrations.
How beliefs and practices persisted through the periods of Christianity and the witch hunts.
What we can learn from the Mesolithic hunter-gatherers to the “cult of the dead” long barrows, stone circles and monuments from the Neolithic to the early Bronze Age.
How the spirit of the land has endured all of the cultural and spiritual shifts and how this spirit still informs the human and more-than-human world.

About Samara:
I am Samara, a seer and spirit walker or ‘shaman’. I am also an ecotherapist and have worked for many years with children in forest school. I am a teacher and over the past decade I have taught courses in shamanism, nature and spirit connection. I am also a guide, to the ancient landscape and history of Britain and within earth-based rites of passage. I am also a researcher of the old ways of Britain.
At Sheffield University, I studied archaeology and anthropology.
I worked as a field archaeologist.
Then continued my studies at Cardiff University, with a Masters in European prehistory.
I am now participating in a PhD.
